About Great Eastern Restaurant

Great Eastern Restaurant is one of the cantonese restaurants listed in San Francisco, California. The business is registered at 649 Jackson St, San Francisco, CA 94133; use this page to check its hours, phone number and Google rating before you make the trip. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as chinese restaurant, dim sum restaurant, restaurant, so it may cover more than the name suggests.

In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in San Francisco; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in California are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

The business lists hours on 6 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 10:30 am–9:30 pm. Note that it does not open on Tuesday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. You can reach Great Eastern Restaurant at (415) 986-2500; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Its website is rebrand.ly, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

One of the best dim sum place in the whole country! Fresh ingredients and authentic flavors. Dim sum are made traditional way from scratch.

Came as a recommendation and wasn't disappointed. We went at around 6pm and there wasn't a wait like I was expecting! We LOVED the dim sum and my girls stated "this is the best soup ever!" In regards to the wonton noodle soup. The service was fantastic and our waiter was informative.

Great Eastern is my absolute favorite place for dim sum. I love how everything comes out whenever it's ready and it's piping hot fresh. Everything is super tasty. And its very reasonably priced. The downsides are just that if you go when they are super busy, the wait can be 30-60 minutes, you have to ask them for water , and it's very hard to get anyone's attention to refill your water class. This might sound ridiculous, but I often just bring a water bottle with me so I don't have to flag them down. But the food is worth it!!!!!

Came here on an early friday afternoon and there were plenty of seats. Many locals dine in here so that's a great sign. Service was excellent. Manager speaks english so no communication problem if you're a tourist. Food came out hot and tasty. We left full and satisfied. 18% tip was already added onto the check. My only complain is that the tea cups are too thin. So if you are pouring hot tea into your cup, you will feel the burn on your fingers.

Came to this Chinese dim sum place at the recommendation of ChatGPT…chose it because Lee Hsien Long and Obama was here. Food was 50:50 - half was amazing, other half meh. - long beans sold as four season bean was meh…not crunchy, the seed was large (meaning beans were old) - siew mai was so-so only - every dim sum restaurant would be judged by their siew mai - the prawn was chunky, but that’s about it. What’s really good: - steamed pork rib - the meat was tender and chunky. One of the best I’ve ever had in terms of the flavor - chicken feet was great too - the feet were all so fleshy..very different from what we usually have in Asia. - “Peking duck” was nice…but it’s not really served authentic Peking duck style with the dumpling skin. They serve it with buns instead. The skin of the duck was nice and crispy. Service was not bad for a Chinese restaurant.
